Lightswitch – A study of external interactive light and immersion in game design
*skrevet på engelsk, da projektet blev udført på engelsk
Research background
The purpose of this research project was to investigate how external interactive light affects game immersion for young adults, the hypothesis being that it would increase the sense of immersion.
Research included immersion and how the environment affects this as well as how to measure it.

Method and game
A game, called Lightswitch, implementing external interactive light was developed and tested comparatively. Testing consisted of two participant groups playing either with or without the external interactive light control. Immersion was measured using a questionnaire, eye tracking and time perception.
We had a total of 38 participants.
The game was a puzzle game in which participants had to toggle the light on and off in order to solve the puzzles.
Conclusion
The results showed that using the external interactive light control decreases immersion when playing Lightswitch.
